Why you can use luxury vinyl plank in any room

High-end style is one reason. We see it in living/dining areas and bedrooms and in some very fashionable homes where once only the real thing would be considered. Waterproof capability is another, making it ideal for kitchens, baths, laundry rooms, and any leak-prone area. Luxury vinyl plank floors (LVP) are also affordable, durable, and easy to maintain and install. Keep in mind that quality makes a big difference in the look and feel of the product, so get the best you can afford. Continue reading to learn more.

Style without sacrifice

LVP is a version of luxury vinyl flooring (LVF), a flooring with a remarkably realistic appearance of wood, tile, or stone, available in an almost unlimited number of colors, patterns, and designs. Images are taken with 3D photography and printed digitally, so you’ll see knots, grains, wormholes, and color/veining variations. Deeply embossed, your LVF floors will have depth, dimension, and textured appearances such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, or distressed. LVF follows all current trends, whether you want gray floors for a farmhouse-style kitchen, whitewashed floors for a California Cottage-style living room, or a marble floor in the bath.

The boards, which are meant to simulate hardwood planks, are made by cutting vinyl into strips and mounting them. The flooring can also be cut into square-tile-sized pieces (LVT). Some use planks for stone looks since the large format and fewer seams give it a more continuous look. Others prefer the extra seams of LVT and even use grout.

Looking like it came from the design pages

Ever see the photos of glossy hardwood floors and think, “Wish I could have that!” You can, and very easily. LVF is available in matte, gloss, or high gloss colors, so choose a high gloss color for your LVP. Your floors will have glamor, high design, and visual appeal.

How long will it last?

Taken care of properly, some LVP (LVF) will last up to 25 years. The vinyl must be the true luxury version, however. So if you don’t see clear and accurate images, ask why. The vinyl should also be thick; to get a truly authentic look and feel of wood, it should measure at least 10-mm or 12-mm. All LVF is layered with a top clear melamine wear sheet. These are measured in mils, and that number should be at least 20.

It’s easy to care for with just a daily sweeping and periodic mopping. Installation can be a floating floor. The pieces click together to mat and then hover over the subfloor, which needs to be clean, dry, and level.
